In the last few years, New Zealand has been turning out a slew of new artists doing great things in a variety of genres; Shocking Pinksis refiguring lo-fi shoegaze, The Naked & Famousare creating shimmery power-synth-pop, and now Aukland’s Sola Rosais a funky, neo-soul hybrid that has won them a number of New Zealand’s highest honors in music and is now garnering attention worldwide. Although they are already 6 full length albums deep into a discography, they are a relatively unknown crew here in the States. But, that seems bound to change with their most latest release, “Get It Together”.

Get It Together by Sola Rosa

With a sharp rhythm section and a great sensibility for picking really talented vocalists, the producers behind Sola Rosa (primarily a dude named Andrew Spraggon and his 3 longtime collaborators) have a sound that effectively splits the difference between early Massive Attack grooves and Daptone Records vibes. Also, their music videos have a wildly colorful and playful sensibility that exhibits their stoney side.

This December will seem them making their stateside run in support of “Get It Together”, including a performance at KCRW’s very own Jeremy Sole’sAfro FunkéTHIS Thursday, December 8.
