Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn (known simply as Mirah) and Thao Nguyen of Thao with the Get Down Stay Down have both cultivated interesting music in their own separate careers.

You might recognize each of the girls individually, as they’ve both been favorites of the station throughout their individual careers.

The two collaborated for a new album, “Thao + Mirah” (which was released on April 26th) and with the help of tUnE-yArDs mastermind Merrill Garbus (see SierraDrucker’s post), these amazing ladies have mixed, mingled, and meshed their sounds to produce something truly explosive and infectious.

Thao & Mirah are an excellent example of the surprising amount of music that can come out of just two or three people. Within this big sound is a swarm of notes and textures, and after listening hundreds of times to tracks like “Eleven” featuring tUnE-yArDs, I continue to find things I didn’t notice before. Stream it here to find out for yourself.

You can also get an exclusive listen to Thao & Mirah’s new album in it’s entirety at NPR’s website here.

Catch them this Sunday, May 1 at The Troubadour as they kick off their album release tour.
