Here’s 5 new (and free) songs this week, including a track from Grammy Nominated producer Jonathan Wilson, who sets up a handful of tour dates across the US. Moby reworks a classic, spiritual track. We share a song from Hovvdy‘s forthcoming album. A new one from Bahamas (they have a sold out show at the Teragram in February). Lastly, new work from LA’s own Electronic pioneer John Tejada!

Monday, Jan 15Midnight Jonathan Wilson “Over The “

Jonathan Wilson is a catalyst in the revival of Laurel Canyon sound, and he kept busy in 2017. He produced Father John Misty’s Grammy Nominated album, stood on arena stages as lead guitarist/vocalist for the legendary Roger Waters, and got tons of praise for his work on Karen Elson’s sophomore album. 2018 won’t slow him down, as he launches his own solo album, continues to tour with Waters, and sneaks in a few shows of his own. Check out the epic “Over The Midnight.”

Tuesday, Jan 16 Moby “Like A Motherless Child “

Moby returns to his orchestral, soul, trip-hop, and gospel roots on his forthcoming album. “Like A Motherless Child” is a re-working of a classic, spiritual song, with origins in the slavery movement. We feel the void left by the separation from a loved one — whether a friend, lover, or parent — as Raquel Rodriquez joins Moby.

Wednesday, Jan 17 Hovvdy “Late “

Charlie Martin and Will Taylor first bonded on their mutual love for quiet music and ramen. Both were drummers before forming Hovvdy, and are relatively new to playing guitar (which they say contributes to their minimal sound). Weaving simplicity to their advantage, we share the song “Late”.

Thursday, Jan 18 Bahamas “Way With Words”

Recorded in Los Angeles with D’Angelo’s rhythm section, Bahamas’s new album has a deeper and more dynamic feel. Inspired by the titans he was working — bassist extraordinaire Pino Palladino and one of the most recorded drummers in R&B history James Gadson — the songs came quickly. His guitar work and sweeping hooks make songs like “Way With Words” unmistakably Bahamas territory.

Friday, Jan 19 John Tejada “Autoseek “

Los Angeles-based house and techno producer John Tejada just released a collaborative piece with Reggie Watts as Wajatta; but for his lucky 13th solo album, the artist flows through a prismatic array of styles and patterns. Here’s “Autoseek.”
