Songs are the soundtracks to our lives, and with so much music out there sometimes it’s necessary to have a little help in curating that soundtrack. Today’s Top Tune not only does just that, it does it in the form of a free song every weekday for your downloading pleasure. We begin this week with Charlotte Day Wilson who makes her Troubadour debut on March 23. The ever prolific Father John Misty drops a new tune for you to call your own on Tuesday. The Shacks are inspired by artists like Hank Williams, and Leonard Cohen whose influences waft into their own sound. Nigerian artist Femi Kuti makes our hearts pound with the pulse of Afrobeat. Field Music rounds out the week by helping us bring on Spring.

Monday, March 5 Charlotte Day Wilson “Nothing New”

At 25, Charlotte Day Wilson has accomplished a lot as a singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. In the past couple of years she’s released a lauded EP, and toured extensively selling out headlining shows as well as sharing stages with Local Natives and Thundercat – just to name a few. We hear an artist in complete control who doesn’t shy away from displaying her vulnerability on “Nothing New.”

Tuesday, March 6 Father John Misty “Mr. Tillman”

New work by Father John Misty always causes a stir here at KCRW so when we got our hands on the latest single, “Mr Tillman,” we couldn’t wait to share it. Father John Misty aka “Mr. Tillman” has always had a way of painting a picture with every note, and that tradition happily continues on this new track.

Wednesday, March 7 The Shacks “Follow Me”

New Jersey based duo The Shacks will release their eagerly anticipated debut album Haze later this month. In the meantime, you can enjoy the seductive and dreamy, “Follow Me” – a mesmerizing stand out from the record.

Thursday, March 8 Femi Kuti “One People One World”

Femi Kuti is the eldest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, and took up the reigns after his death. On his new collection of songs Kuti continues his family’s socially conscious message, but incorporates love songs into the mix. “One People One World” is filled with potent horns that come directly from his heart.

Friday, March 9 Field Music “Daylight Saving”

Brothers Peter and David Brewis aka Field Music became nestled in a cocoon of creativity fueled by the demise of their small town, global political events, and the chaos of parenting and adulthood as they made their 6th album. As we spring forward this weekend, we offer the timely track “Daylight Saving” to help make that transition.
