“The Lollygaggers” musical, written by NASA oceanographer Josh Willis and theater director Rani O’Brien, depicts a fictional place where animals can escape climate change. The show will be presented on Sunday at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

There was a lawsuit filed in federal court against the Obama administration for not responding strongly enough to the threat of climate change.

The plaintiffs – all young people – say the government’s lack of action is a threat to their generation and to future generations as well.

The White House points to the EPA’s Climate Action Plan as an example of something that the government is doing.

They may be two simple words, but – to be sure – climate change is a pretty complicated subject.

And that’s where Josh Willis and Rani O’Brien come in.

Josh is an oceanographer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and wanted to get the word out about the issue in a more entertaining way – so he co-wrote a musical comedy with theatre director Rani O’Brien.

Together they created a stage performance called “Lollygaggers”, that’ll be performed on Sunday at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

They spoke to KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis about how the production came together.

Here’s a trailer for the show:
