Ask Evan: Where Can I Buy Farro?

askevan_header_2Every Tuesday I answer a question from a Good Food listener.  You can email me a question, leave one on Facebook or add one in the comments section here.  This week’s question comes from Ellen:

Do you know of a good mail order resource for farro?

emmerWholeGrain_lgI think right now the best mail order source for farro has to be Bluebird Grain Farms, a plough to package farm, specializing in grains in Washington State. They sell Emmer Farro, the traditional Italian grain (as opposed to Spelt which is a different variety). They sell whole grain, milled to order flours and cracked grain for cereal. Plough to package means they do everything themselves including milling the grain. They wood condition their grain by storing it in wood granaries. Any moisture in the grain is absorbed by the wood, thus avoiding molds and rot. http://www.bluebirdgrainfarms.com/
