Chino Farm in Rancho Santa Fe. The produce grown by the Chino family is as close to perfect as I’ve experienced. And when I say perfect I mean each individual vegetable or fruit tastes so much like itself sometimes it’s like meeting it for the first time. Alice Waters and Wolfgang Puck are the most famous chefs devoted to the flavor that the family’s extraordinary care manages to imbue in each crop. It’s a schlep from LA, almost to San Diego near Del Mar but well worth it for a special adventure. If you’re lucky enough to live close by and you’ve never been, now is the time to remedy your misbehavior. The Good Earth – Great Chefs series is almost like a coming out party for the low profile Chino Family . It’s the best reason I can think of to spend part of a day there. To give you an idea of what the events are like take a look at Andrea Drexelius aka French Basketeer‘s write up of author Deborah Madison‘s visit to the farm a couple of weekends ago.
