I've been in the television business for many years. I've stood on many sets, watched many takes, so it was awkward, a week or so ago, when I directed an episode of television for the first time, to every now and then stare at the monitors on the set during a day of shooting and everything would go quiet and the actors would look at each other and I'd wonder what was going to happen next which was when the first assistant director would whisper, "um, Rob, it's for you to say 'action.'"
