Ice Cube: Straight Outta Compton

Hosted by

The movie Straight Outta Compton tells the story of the rise and disintegration of N.W.A, the rap group that included Eazy-E, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. Dre and Cube are producers on the film.

The Universal movie, which set box-office records when it was released in August, is now an awards contender. It just made the AFI's list of top ten films of the year.

Ice Cube sat down with us to talk about how he went from being a world-famous rapper to a successful actor and producer. He also discusses the multi-year struggle to bring Straight Outta Compton to the screen, and how his own son, O'Shea Jackson Jr. came to be the one to portray him.

Beyond Compton, Ice Cube has another movie, Ride Along 2, coming out in January. He shares way he doesn't want to make movies with massive budgets, and the challenges of getting movie studios to market his films and other movies with African American casts to larger audiences, including overseas.
