I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about Alex Winston.

What I do know is that Jason Bentley has been playing this song that catches my attention every time. At first, it caught my ear because, frankly, the music at the beginning reminded me of some kind of cell phone commercial. Then, I wasn’t sure I liked the singer’s high pitched voice.

It’s funny how sometimes a song that you notice because you think you DON’T like it can actually become one of your favorites — and that is EXACTLY what happened. I cannot stop listening to the RAC remix of “Velvet Elvis”.

Turns out Alex is a 21-year-old singer from Detroit classically trained in opera who will be releasing a full length early next year. Until then, we have her 3-song Velvet Elvis EP which is out September 13.

You can hear/download an EP of covers recorded in her basement and called, fittingly,“The Basement Covers” here.
