KCRW DJ Raul Campos started spinning this band from Philadelphia called

Cheerleader.

As their name might suggest, their tunes are straight up power pop.

I was really taken by the song “New Daze” and made a mental note to keep an eye on them.

Well, the quintet is back with a new track and it’s fantastic. It’s called “On Your Side” and I’ve been listening to it on repeat for about a week.

I feel like it’s destined to be used during the final scene of some big budget romantic comedy where the couple rides off happily into the sunset.

It’s all the great parts of love rolled into one pop anthem — giddy joy, triumphant world-conquering optimism and a chorus of undying support: “I’ve been on your side all this time.”

Their new EP is out on October 7 and definitely worth picking up.

Fun fact: On their FB page, the band lists The Derevolutions, a recent Travis Holcombe favorite, among the “bands we like.”
