At some point last year, I was swept away from a happy hour to a show at Santa Monica music venue called Central.
I was told the singer for the band we were about to see had lead a popular band from the mid-2000’s and he was working out material for his new project.
I immediately recognized the frontman as The Bravery’s Sam Endicott and the project was The Mercy Beat.
Not surprisingly, they sounded a lot like The Bravery in all the good ways – synthy gems with his signature falsetto and just the right amount of moodiness.
After three albums with The Bravery, Sam started writing songs for pop starlets like Christina Aguilara and Shakira. He had a lot of success, but apparently he missed being in a band and formed this one with friends.
They’ll be playing a bunch around SoCal in the coming weeks and they have an EP that will be via OSKAR Recording on June 17. I
