Local Natives and Their Past Lives

Written by

I pressed play on the first Local Natives song in 3 years with nervous excitement.

I can safely say I’ve been there “since the beginning” with these guys, so I have a special connection to them. I’ve run into various members of the band over the years and I knew they were hard at work on a new album.

And now, we finally have the fruits of their labor — well worth the wait.

The soaring harmonies and epic instrumentation are all there and here is what Taylor Rice has to say about it.

“The world is not static, it’s made new over and over again. But we tend to live the same patterns in a loop, loving the same way, wrestling the same demons, the same dynamics playing out around us again and again. Untangling every moment and decision that led us to where we are now can make fate feel concrete, inescapable. But our world is not fixed, it’s constantly reemerging, and we can change it into whatever we want.”

A nice audio treat before the weekend.
