After this past week of near unbearable heat here in Los Angeles, it appears as though we’re headed for a reprieve soon. That is very good news. In even better news, we have a premiere of sorts this week! KCRW mainstays De Lux have followed up their excellent album from earlier this year – More Disco Songs About Love – with an E.P. of covers appropriately entitled More Disco Covers About Love. The covers include ones from Built to Spill, Ben Browning (Cut Copy), and Spoon which had it’s radio premiere on today’s edition of Morning Becomes Eclectic. Since we’re leading with the De Lux track that turns Spoon’s bittersweet anthem “Do You” into a frothy disco confection, we’ll also get into a few other jams that will give you similar vibes.
De Lux – “Do You”
As I touched on in my opening paragraph, local heroes De Lux have taken Spoon’s soaring “Do You,” and refitted it nicely for the dance floor. If it’s possible to distill a summer weekend into song form, this one pretty much does the trick. Fun fact, De Lux are headed out on tour soon so if they’re headed to a city near you do your best to catch them. They’re super fun live.
R&D – “Cards”
This brand new single from collaborators Lee Bannon, and Rabit was simply made for summer playlists. It’s perfect for sound tracking a lazy day beach/poolside, a night on the town, and everything else in between. The gentle disco vibes that it brings to the table are simply delightful, and worthy of several repeat listens.

Vinyl Williams – “Noumena”
Now for a little something that is guaranteed to cool you down quite properly. Admittedly, Vinyl Williams was one of those artists whose name I’d see around a lot, always meant to check out, but never did. Now their forthcoming album Opal (set for release next Friday 7/20) is the record I’m currently most anticipating. “Noumena” came into my life via a twitter request during my time on last week’s Sunday installment of the Summer Mixer when the theme was “cool.” I could not be more grateful to now know about this lovely, hazy slip of a song, and I will now count myself as a Vinyl Williams fan for life.
