Lawrence Rothman “Wolves Still Cry”

Lawrence Rothman embodies a number of diverse, gender-bending alter egos on his new album The Book of Law. We love them all but are partial to “Wolves Still Cry.”

Nicole Atkins “Darkness Falls”

A month long stint in rehab provided Nicole Atkins with a new career phase. While there, she met a hip-hop music producer who told her to stop messing around with indie-rock cause she was a soul singer. Atkins ended up recording an album’s worth of songs inspired by the likes of Dusty Springfield, Candi Staton, and Loretta Lynn. Check out “Darkness Falls.”

Davie “Testify”

Davie’s formative years were spent singing at church where he developed his love for Gospel. He later moved to the stage, backing the likes of Cee Lo Green and Childish Gambino. He’s gifted at connecting the listener to the raw emotion and simplicity of Gospel and Soul. “Testify” is driven by handclaps, a bouncy bass line, and pure joy.
