This week, Today’s Top Tune travels to NYC for the 19th annual LAMC (Latin Alternative Music Conference), so we can bring you gifts of music discovery! First up, it’s tattoo artist turned musician Tomasa Del Real. We share Gabriel Garzón-Montano’s first new song since the release of his debut album. Uruguayan Renaissance man Jorge Drexler comments on modern communication. Plus… we get a taste of Vallenato with Very Be Careful. And, our Friday Live on MBE track is from Yellow Days.
Monday, July 9 Tomasa Del Real “Si o No”
Chilean rapper Tomasa Del Real was a sought after tattoo artist in her native Chile, before she turned “Queen of Neo-Perro”(the dance and culture that surrounds Reggaetón). Known for flipping the genre’s machismo on its head, “Si O No” is a catchy track from her new album.
Tuesday, July 10 Gabriel Garzón-Montano “Golden Wings”
Gabriel Garzón-Montano quietly released one of the best albums of 2017. “Golden Wings” is a new song that features Montano on every note and instrument. Catch him live as part of LAMC’s Central Park SummerStage Show in NYC on July 11.
Wednesday, July 11 Jorge Drexler “Telefonía”
Grammy and Oscar winning artist Jorge Drexler reflects on love and technology on “Telefonía,” as he praises this modern device as a way to shorten the distance between two hearts. We hope he performs the song live when he plays LAMC’s Central Park SummerStage on Saturday.
Thursday, July 12 Very Be Careful “Dos Corazones”
LA’s Very Be Careful rushed into an abandoned studio, replete with old instruments and a 64 track analog console to record their new album. Within 2 days, they recorded and finished their songs without overdubs. The experience pushed their Afro-Colombian rhythms further in “Dos Corazones.”
Friday, July 13 Yellow Days Live on MBE “Nothing’s Gonna Keep Me Down”
On a recent visit to MBE, Yellow Days sat down to talk about his song “Nothing’s Gonna Keep Me Down” and then performed it just for you!
