Big Freedia stops by the Rivian Electric Roadhouse for a chat… AND to world premiere her life affirming new gospel-house track “Take My Hand.”
    Mar 13, 2025

You know Queen of New Orleans bounce Big Freedia; you’ve thrown down to her bombastic, twerk-ready beats and bars for the entire 21st century. She’s gotten “Nasty” with Spank Rock, audacious with RuPaul, defiant with Beyoncé, and hit many additional sonic points in between. As an avid presence on the festival circuit she’s rocked stages from WeHo Pride, to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

And now she’s returning to the gospel roots of her youth with a new album set for release this summer. We don’t have a title yet, but we do know that it’ll be “a vibrant and uplifting non-denominational record that blends bounce, gospel, soul, and R&B in a way that only Big Freedia can.”

And from now until March 21, unless you find yourself at a Freedia show, you’ll have to press the player button on this page to hear the WORLD PREMIERE of the first single from that forthcoming album — “Take My Hand.” Tune in for some serious gospel-house perfection as part of Freedia’s guest DJ set which also features DJ Jubilee’s “We're Gettin' Ready,” Sylvester’s “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” and Luther Barnes & The Red Budd Gospel Choir’s “I'm Still Holding On.” Plus she’s telling us more about what to expect from the new record, the upcoming tour, and the space the rest of her song selects occupy in her life.
