Kickoff to Labor Day Weekend
KCRW’s signature music program — defying format since 1977.

The new month is upon us and Caribou wants you to know “You Can Do It!”
Rising Inglewood outfit Katalyst are a true melange of what makes this city fabulous. The nine members are affiliated with the Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra, as well as USC, UCLA, and Cal State Northridge. You've already heard them collaborate with iconic Angelenos like Kendrick and Anderson .Paak, and now “Juneteenth” from their new album.
And we honor the life of artist, activist, and wonderful human Nectali Díaz, also known as Sumohair and half of psychedelic cumbia duo Reyna Tropical. From his haircut cumbia parties to border-defying production to work documenting Afro-Mexican culture, his loss is one of huge proportions to the LA music community. We play some of his sounds and those of favorites Manu Chao in celebration of his legacy.
