We were beginning to think we’d never see the day when we’d publish a KCRW Top 30 Chart without Helado Negro’s Best of 2021 album “Far In” somewhere on the list. Alas, that day has come. We’re not expecting this to be a permanent condition — especially with a couple of very enticing shows coming up in Southern California.

So what did chart this week? We've made our feelings about the return of Toro y Moi crystal clear, so naturally the forthcoming album “MAHAL” has handily secured the number one spot. Meanwhile, it’s truly thrilling to witness Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Renata Zeiguer inching ever closer to the top ten as fervor around her music continues to grow station wide.

And it’s so nice to see the reappearance of Faye Webster, who made one of last year’s best (if perhaps a bit slept on) albums, “I Know I’m Funny haha.” If you’re one of those brave souls venturing out for live music again, then you’ll definitely want to consider her Feb. 10 show at the Fonda alongside another frequent presence on these charts, Kate Bollinger.
