Great dance music is not extinct — not even close. For starters, check out this New Beat and EBM guide from Berlin-based DJ/musician Curses for some serious, irrefutable proof. Or you could just do a deep dive into this week’s Top 30 chart. British DJ/producer extraordinaire Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs has held a steady presence in the top 30 since the release of the title track from his latest EP, “The Distance,” as has his friend and collaborator Bonobo, with anticipation for his 2022 release “Fragments” running high. Then there’s U.K. based drum n bass revivalist PinkPantheress with her revelatory EP “to hell with it,” and that barely even gets us out of the top ten. There’s a message coming through loud and clear, and that message is “lose yourself to dance.”
