Montreal rave-punks Pelada drop guest mix on guest mix. Plus, French legend Black Devil Disco Club’s forthcoming single “La Mer Sur L'Enfer.”
Ahead of helping to kick off Substance Festival 2023, Montreal rave-punk duo Pelada have each made a bespoke FREAKS ONLY mix. The result is a greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts pairing that showcases their individual strengths while also being totally complimentary. Frontperson Chris Vargas’ mix nods to their industrial roots with a flair for the theatrical and an interest in traversing stylistic territory that veers from Korea Town Acid to BAMBII. Beatmaker Tobias Rochman’s mix focuses more intently on hard beats (natch) and a relentless pace (cheeky ending aside). Hear ‘em both as part of this edition of FREAKS ONLY, AND enjoy a sneak-peek-spin of “La Mer Sur L'Enfer,” the forthcoming single from French disco legend — Black Devil Disco Club.
