It’s been a little over a year since we last caught up with our pal Orlando Higginbottom (aka Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs), and he’s been busy. The Grammy-nominated producer of cerebral synth-pop recently teamed with Libson-based modern disco artist Moullinex for the bombastic, dancefloor-ready single “So Alive.” And since cracking the top 20 of KCRW’s Best Albums of 2022 with his latest LP When The Lights Go, he’s hand-picked remixers for the freshly released deluxe edition of the album (including tastemaking producers Holiday87 and Damian Lazarus). Amid all of this, Higginbottom has toured the world extensively while officially making LA his home base.

Before his show at The Bellwether on Friday, Nov. 10 (Presented by KCRW, with FREAKS ONLY host Travis Holcombe on the decks), Higginbottom is mixing up a simmering blend of four-on-the-floor grooves exclusively for us. Chock full of faves including yunè pinku, Man Power, and John Tejada, this mix also boasts just enough gritty beats and dissonant instrumentation to keep us guessing. Dive in via the audio player to your left, and check out Higginbottom in conversation with Holcombe, talking the art of collaboration, getting risky during live shows, and the dream of experimenting with orchestral arrangements. Find it here (time stamp noted below).
