The City of LA is encouraging the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in the backyards of Angelenos' homes. Officials see these so-called ‘granny flats’ as a scalable way of building lots of new housing without disrupting neighborhoods. But some say ADUs are too costly and difficult to permit and build. KCRW’s Frances Anderton went to the unveiling of a test project in Highland Park.
