In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court says same-sex couples have the right to marry. Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion "Under the Constitution, same-sex couples seek in marriage the same legal treatment as opposite-sex couples, and it would disparage their choices and diminish their personhood to deny them this right." How will this ruling affect societal acceptance and laws? "It will be used to vilify Americans who are unwilling to assent to the new orthodoxy," dissenting Justice Samuel Alito wrote.
