California faces lawsuit after freelance journalists get fired over AB5

Assembly Bill 5 goes into effect in 2020, and it’s aimed at protecting gig economy workers by reclassifying them as employees. This week, Vox Media laid off about 200 of its California freelance journalists, partly blaming the new law. Now organizations representing freelance journalists are suing California.
