Los Angeles County voted in a new sheriff this week and Sheriff-Elect Jim McDonnell has his work cut out for him: He’s inheriting a department in the middle of a federal investigation into corruption and civil rights abuses, and six onetime deputies were recently convicted of obstructing the probe.
