Early Puberty in Girls

With girls in the US budding breasts at eight and entering puberty at nine, the age of menstruation drops every decade. Some doctors call early puberty a social catastrophe that catapults girls into sexual activity, even pregnancy, before they are emotionally prepared. Others call it a luxury of a well-fed society that doesn't merit drastic measures. Newsmaker: Bush Cabinet Choices - This morning George W. Bush announced four more cabinet nominees. Matt Bai is national correspondent for Newsweek magazine. He talks about Bush's latest choices. Reporter's Notebook: Crime on Campus - Are colleges safe havens or dangerous places? An upgraded law is making colleges disclose their crime statistics to the Department of Education. How are they responding to the extra scrutiny? Howard Clery founded Security on Campus after losing his sister to a violent campus incident. Warren Olney spoke with him about a long-ignored problem.
