Terrorism Strikes World Trade Center and Pentagon

Hosted by Warren Olney Sep. 11, 2001 National
The New York skyline has been changed forever. The military's top command post is partly destroyed. The consequences for America's psyche remain to be seen. Today's attacks on the World Trade towers and the Pentagon are being compared to Pearl Harbor as a sophisticated, well coordinated surprise assault that American leaders are calling "an act of war." American airlines are grounded. The dead and wounded may number 5000 or more. President Bush has promised to "hunt down and punish" the responsible parties. As the American military goes on high alert all over the world, cities and states around the US are taking precautions, too. We're joined by experts from the fields of defense, foreign policy, terrorism and civil rights to figure out how and why this all happened and what's likely to happen next.
