LAPD's Daryl Gates Remembered, Warts and All

Hosted by

Daryl Gates died last week. The former LA Police Chief is being remembered as being devoted to law enforcement and the LAPD, but out of step with history. Current Chief Charlie Beck, whose father was also in the LAPD, says “there has to be a way to be an effective police officer without alienating the people you were policing.” Before he won a Pulitzer Prize with the New York Times, David Cay Johnston covered Gates for the Los Angeles Times.
