Every driver in California has seen motorcycles weave through the traffic on roads and freeways. "Lane splitting" is not illegal, but it's not legal either — at least not yet. AB 51 would make it part of the Vehicle Code. It passed the Assembly by a big margin, and it's on the way to the Senate. The author is Bill Quirk, a Democrat from the East Bay Area.
