Tentative Agreement Reached in Port Dispute

Twenty-nine West Coast ports are fully open again. The maritime industry reached an agreement with union negotiators Friday after nine months of stalemate. But 13,000 rank and file members won't vote on ratification until April — and the companies haven't formally accepted the new contract, either.

Twenty-nine West Coast ports are fully open again. The maritime industry reached an agreement with union negotiators Friday after nine months of stalemate. But 13,000 rank and file members won't vote on ratification until April — and the companies haven't formally accepted the new contract, either. Continued uncertainty won't help the ports get back to business, according to Justin Pritchard of the Associated Press.
