Fanatics. I am sitting in a Starbucks in Washington DC in my old neighborhood. I am on my second pass of the last few singles the Buzzcocks recorded for United Artists. I don’t know why I trip on them so often. I guess it’s because I think the songs are better than a lot of the ones found on the album they recorded right before these called A Different Kind of Tension. It’s a great album but these songs are really happening when some of the ones on ADKoT never really hit me as hard. Perhaps later this summer, we will play all of these songs together and see what you make of them. Perhaps some of them will be new to you and you will dig them. I have been obsessed with the Buzzcocks UA recordings since I was in high school. I am still knocked out how damn good these songs are.

Again, thank you for all the cool letters over the last several days. Thanks for digging the show and for putting up with the change of night. I know many of you who listen in from all over the world check the show on archive and it really doesn’t matter all that much but thanks nonetheless and please, keep listening as you know we put a lot of effort into all this and hope you get a kick out of it every week.

Tonight’s show is basically a turn around from the shows we have been putting up for the last month or so. We are going to go long, as you can see from our list below.

Of course, I love all these songs but for me, the star of this show would have to be Lou Reed’s Like A Possum at the end of the night. It’s such an interesting piece of work. I think the first time I heard the track was in my car. My old manager was managing Lou and gave me a copy of the Ecstasy album and I was listening to it really loud. I think I hit Like A Possum somewhere on Mullholland, heading towards Laurel.

Next week’s show will be live. The Big Three will actually go into the radio station and try to do this Sunday night graveyard bullshit shift in real time. I know the music will be good but past that, the idea of rolling out of that place at 2200 hrs. on a Sunday, ugh. Young Will Bentley wants to do it, so we are going to do it.

Tonight’s show is a great one. Different than the pace we have been keeping for the last several shows but I think it’s good to work in different textures and lengths sometimes. We have all summer to shake things up and, Fanatic, you know we will. Perhaps our show on the 26th will be one of those kind of conflagrations.

Actually, I can hear it now. Birthday Party, Ayler, some of that new Coltrane Sun Ship Sessions set, some of those Boris re-issues . . . As John Lee Hooker used to say, “The pot’s on now!”

The idea of putting you Fanatics through this show on a Sunday makes me want to drive a nail into my forehad. Keep rockin’ and stay fanatic.
