New York rockers Interpol explode on Morning Becomes Eclectic at 11:15am

    Jul 29, 2002

New York-s Interpol visited KCRW-s studios to play a set and chat with Nic Harcourt. During their first live radio appearance in the US Interpol played tracks from their debut LP Turn on the Bright Lights and talked about the New York music scene, their musical influences and upcoming tour plans.

Interpol formed in 1998 when Daniel Kessler (guitar and vocals) and Carlos Dengler (bass and keyboards) were students at New York University. Paul Banks (vocals and guitar) and Greg (drums) rounded out the original line-up. In 2000 Sam Fogarino replaced the original drummer. The band regularly played New York clubs Brownie-s, the Mercury Lounge and the Bowery Ballroom. In 2001 they recorded a session with John Peel after touring Glasgow, Manchester and London to support a limited edition EP released on the Fukd I.D. series by Scottish label Chemikal Underground. Later that year they played French festivals. Back in the US, they began recording Turn on the Bright Lights.

Interpol is playing the Troubadour on September 18 and 19
