MBE June 23: Sounds from Ghana, Gorillaz, and soul sampling

Kelenkye Band, a mid-‘70s Ghanaian Afro-funk group, gets us moving and grooving on this Thursday with “Jungle Music.”

Damon Albarn of the Gorillaz has been busy this year, from his stop by Anne’s backyard, to a performance with Billie at Coachella, to his current European tour, he continues to surprise us. Now Gorillaz team up with Brainfeeder luminary Thundercat on a brand new song titled “Cracker Island,” and pals, it does not disappoint.

Plus, a double dose sampling of The Ethics’s classic soul song “Lost in A Lonely World,” featuring Madlib’s feel-good take on his track “Road of the Lonely Ones” and the latest release from Dutch-Caribbean artist Naomi Sharonon on a gorgeous single titled “Hills.”
