Ecuadorian-Swiss sibling duo, Hermanos Gutiérrez are desert vibes personified. Each reverb-drenched, luxuriously layered note they play on their guitars permeates the atmosphere like dry heat slowly rising through a cacti-crowded expanse. On their way to Texas for a handful of SXSW showcases, Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez stop by KCRW’s Annenberg Performance Studio to get into the groove. Tracks abound from their Dan Auerbach produced 2022 album El Bueno y El Malo — including the live performance debut of “Tres Hermanos.” And in between each stretch of instrumental profundity, the duo opens up to Anthony Valadez about their choice to keep the guitars front and center while omitting vocals from their cinematic sounds. They also discuss making mixtapes composed entirely of the Outkast track “ATLiens,” and definitively reveal which brother is the better soccer player.

Plus, South African avant-pop artist Alice Phoebe Lou teases a forthcoming album with her latest single “Shelter,” and we celebrate Pi Day with a 2005 homage from Kate Bush to the world’s favorite numerical pattern.
