RIP Andy Rourke, bassist for The Smiths. The Mancunian post-punk band whose riffs likely come to mind when you hear any music being described as “jangly” burned fast and bright from 1982 to 1987 (and they never ever got back together). But within that brief timeline, they defined a template for a brand of indie-romanticism that remains prominent to this day. While the juggernaut songwriting duo of lead singer/primary lyricist (Steven) Morrisey, and lead guitarist (Johnny) Marr hold the bulk of the credit for this influence… where would they be without those timeless basslines?

Hit Parade due Sept. 8 via Ninja Tune. Plus, we have your chance at a couple of the hottest tickets in town. The icon Janet Jackson will command the stage for opening night at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday June 10. We’d love to send you and your favorite plus one off to “Rhythm Nation,” OR to Brookside at the Rose Bowl on Sunday June 4 to catch LCD Soundsystem’s curated night of Re:SET. This one features LCD as your headliners alongside Idles, Jamie xx, Big Freedia and more. Best of luck, we’re feeling SO good about your odds.
