    Matt Furie speaks out about Pepe the Frog becoming a hate symbol

    The Anti Defamation League has officially designated Pepe the Frog as a hate symbol. Pepe is the stoned cartoon frog that’s been showing up in racist imagery from the alt-right, but he started as a symbol of just chilling out. Los Angeles based cartoonist Matt Furie debuted Pepe in a web comic in 2005.

    The Anti Defamation League has officially designated Pepe the Frog as a hate symbol. Pepe is the stoned cartoon frog that’s been showing up in racist imagery from the alt-right, but he started as a symbol of just chilling out. Los Angeles based cartoonist Matt Furie debuted Pepe in a web comic in 2005. Furie spoke with Press Play about how his cartoon has been hijacked.
