    Former KKK leader David Duke told the LA Times recently that he’s “winning” right now, and that’s because his racist ideology is getting quite a bit of airtime lately. Duke’s a prominent supporter of Donald Trump, and he and many other leaders of racist groups have been energized by the Trump candidacy.

Pepe is the stoned cartoon frog that’s been showing up in racist imagery from the alt-right, but he started as a symbol of just chilling out. Los Angeles based cartoonist Matt Furie debuted Pepe in a web comic in 2005.
