Nationally, President Trump is trailing Joe Biden by an average of about 10 points, and he’s behind Biden in key battlegrounds like Florida, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. That’s largely due to how he’s handled the nation’s response to the coronavirus, the economic recovery, and the racial unrest in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.
This fall, both the House and Senate are in play, and it’s increasingly likely that the Senate will flip back to the Democrats.
KCRW talks about all this with Mike Madrid, Republican political strategist and co-founder of The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump group of Republicans.
“Conservatism has been so transformed into this populist, nationalist ugly creature that I have an obligation to remove it, to fumigate it,” says Madrid.
He also says, “Those voices that were supposed to be moderate, that were supposed to be the adults in the room, have proven that they are neither. And so we are going to train our fire on everybody who is supporting this dark history.”
