Artists like Os Mutantes, Vytas Brenner and Eduardo Mateo were some of the many South American artists who built a wildly inventive world of psychedelic rock, weaving local rhythms and folk traditions into fuzzed-out guitars and adventurous jazz. Moving from dreamy Uruguayan folk and Venezuelan jazz-rock to Brazilian Tropicália and the electric grooves of Peruvian cumbia, this show explores sounds that feel both wonderfully familiar and completely unexpected, with a funky, jazzy thread through it all.
