Tonight’s show journeys through the extraordinary world of Haruomi Hosono, a true legend whose restless imagination helped shift the course of popular music forever. We’ll trace his evolution from the psychedelic rock of Apryl Fool and the groundbreaking Japanese folk-rock of Happy End to the tropical fantasies of his solo records, the electronic revolution of Yellow Magic Orchestra, and his later experiments in ambient music. Along the way, we’ll hear songs Hosono wrote, produced, arranged, and inspired, revealing how his beautifully strange ideas continue to echo through generations of music around the world.
