The Pew Research Center, a polling firm, reports that 92% of adults who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender say society has become more accepting of them in the past 10 years. But for some young people that’s just not true. Last month, when 20-year old Daniel Pierce talked to his family about being gay, he recorded the encounter on his cellphone. Daniel Pierce’s tape struck a chord with a lot of people. More than $100,000 in donations poured in to help him survive without the support of his family. That happened just after this month’s Rolling Stone magazine published a lengthy account titled, “The Forsaken: A Rising Number of Homeless Gay Teens are being Cast Out by Religious Families.”
