They reveal that they chose to call the book Supplications because the chosen poems had something of a pleading quality to them. They also talk about a more difficult issue they encountered in the selection process – choosing the version of the poems they wanted to include. Wieners was known for trying to "get new music out of old language" by keeping his poems fluid.
