Tom Drury's novels take the American Midwest as their stage. His latest, Pacific (Grove Press) follows Micah, a resident of his fictional Grouse County who has moved to Los Angeles to reunite with his mother, co-star of a New-Agey television series. Drury talks about his affection for the Midwest, the status of belief today, and the "provisional" quality of contemporary American life.
