Over the weekend I ventured to Mikawaya, the famed Japanese confectionary store in Little Tokyo. Celebrating it’s 100 year anniversary this year, Mikawaya is still serving up the silky confections that they introduced to American consumers in 1910. It is Mikawaya’s own brand that you can now found stocked in Trader Joes and Whole Foods nation wide, but nothing compares to the real deal. In addition to balls of Mochi Ice Cream or Mochi Gelato you can try traditional Japanese pastries known as Wagashi that rarely make an appearance in the western markets.
