Forty percent of food in the U.S. goes uneaten. Considering that 80% of the fresh water we have is used to grow food, that means we are throwing away a tremendous amount of water.

Forty percent of food in the U.S. goes uneaten. Considering that 80% of the fresh water we have is used to grow food, that means we are throwing away a tremendous amount of water. In light of the ongoing drought we asked Dana Gunders, scientist at the National Resources Defense Council, to join us on Good Food this week to discuss the root causes of food waste and what we can do to stop it.

This handy chart published in her forthcoming Waste Free Kitchen Handbook, relates shower minutes to some of our favorite food stuffs.
