Jim Russell brings fresh, raw macadamia nuts to the Santa Monica Farmers Market. They are grown locally in Fallbrook. Originally from Australia, macadamia nuts became popularized as a crop from Hawaii. Last year, because of Australia’s drought and low output, Jim sold out of his nuts. He should be in the market for the next several months. The nuts have a really tough outer shell and are tough to crack — Jim has a special tool. While most commercial varieties are greasy, Jim’s are dried naturally and are considered a raw food. Hear Laura Avery’s interview with Jim, this week on the Market Report.
