From Field to Feast

This Saturday at 11:30 am, Kids with Cameras, a Santa Monica Human Relations Council summer project for youth recruited from the Police Activities League and Boys and Girls Club will celebrate its finale, an exhibition of photos and community conversation at the Santa Monica Family YMCA. So head on down there, after you listen to Good Food, of course!

Sixteen youth from PAL and Boys and Girls Club participated in summer workshops and met with local vendors, gardners, farmers and a chef to learn about how food is planted, harvested, produced and consumed as part of the Farmer’s Market movement. They were led by Fabian Lewkowicz, a professional photo journalist and supervised by City staff members Eula Fritz and PAL officers. Over a period of six weeks, the kids were trained to document their experiences through the lens of a camera, using a photo-journalistic style. At the event on October 2, the youth will exhibit their work and share their narratives with the community at large. The exhibit will be curated by Lewkowicz.
