Jonathan Gold is the Pulitzer Prize winning food writer for the LA Times. This week, he visits Cassia in Santa Monica. The buzzy new opening is a partnership between Chef Bryant Ng (formerly of Spice Table), Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan.

What to order: the charcuterie plate, cucumber salad, chopped escargot, white pepper crab and Vietnamese pot au feu.
