My cousins who live in Tucson are up on the Oregon coast for vacation and they convinced me to join them. They’re staying near Lincoln City in the hills in a lovely home with a lovelier hostess, Joan who allowed us to take over the kitchen like a bunch of maniacs who never foraged before. Berry picking is a daily activity. Fish smoking, tuna pressure canning etc. You get the picture. And of course pie making.

Penny is my host Joan’s neighbor who picked the berries and swears by Ina Garten’s Perfect Pie Crust. She made a double-crust wild blackberry:
